How about decorating your home and celebrating the holiday without polluting our environment and even saving some money? These easy ideas can help you decorate for your St. Patrick’s party using environmentally safe and keep more cash in your pot of gold.

OPT FOR LED LIGHTS

Party decorations usually include some lights to enhance the celebrating. If you want extra brilliance, substantial energy savings, long life and added safety, LED lights are the way to go.

How does saving on electricity and having much safer lighting sound? LED string lights are far more efficient than incandescent lights. LED’s or “light emitting diodes” use from 80% to 90% less energy, burn cooler and produce a brilliant bright light. Here’s something else to toast some green beer to. According to the Alliance to Save Energy, powering up 10 strings of large incandescent bulbs for a month will cost you about $127 and only a whopping 72 cents with the same amount of LED strings! That will make your leprechaun smile!

LED string lights are widely available and come in a variety of styles including mini, globe and C6, C7 or C9 styles. Their price varies from a few dollars per string on up, depending on the quality and length. Expect to pay more than incandescent strings, but because of their long life and energy saving benefits they will pay for themselves over time.

SEND AN E-GREETING CARD

Invite your favorite Irish eyes smile to the party with an e-card instead of a traditional paper greeting card. Just think about it; you mail a card, it gets opened, they smile and eventually the card gets thrown away along with mind boggling mounds of other wasted paper. Every Christmas, the amount of cards sold annually could fill a 10 story high football field! Save the stamp and the hassle by using any one of many e-greeting sites available

Sending an e-card says you not only you care about your special leprechaun but also care about the environment.

RECYCLE, RECYCLE, RECYCLE

So you’re expecting a pretty good crowd for your St. Patrick’s Day party. You’ve got plenty of food and of course green beer. Check your local stores for paper decorations, cups and plates made from recycled materials before just opting for the cheapest selections. You may pay a little more, but using recycled products helps keep our environment stay clean and green. Also, make sure all those beer cans, paper plates, cups and paper decorations go in the recycle bin and not just the garbage. Better yet, avoid the beer cans and use kegs.

Saving money is always at the top of most people’s priorities. Helping to keep our environment clean and green is just as important. With a little planning ahead and some creative thinking we can all benefit from decorating for this St. Patrick’s Day without breaking the bank or creating more waste and pollution.. Adopt these easy “green” ideas for your St. Patrick’s Day decorating project, have some fun and help the environment while you’re at it!
